9 Mile Long Run

Filed under: Daily Running — runninggeek at 9:09 pm on Sunday, July 9, 2006

Today our Team In Training running group did a 9 mile run. I thought I was in good enough shape to do this run today. WOW. I hurt. I completed the 9 miles without giving in and walking except water stations(which everyone does) but I am one sore hurting puppy. To the point that it hurts to move my legs if they’ve been in one position for too long.

I have been training but it’s been a mixture of spinning and running and I haven’t been focusing on my base miles at all. I’ve been focusing on my cardio vascular aspect in the hope of completing a sub 4 hour race. That was a mistake. So this week I’m reevaluating my training program. I’ve got to get something in that includes, a mixture, a base run, a speed run and that meets the distance requirements for the week.

The spinning class is beneficial but mostly a cardio vascular - I still need three days of running to prepare for the long runs.
I recovered breathing and heart rate wise very fast today. But my legs are still hurting. I keep praying I had anti inflamatories but I can’t get them anymore unless I go to my doctor. I’ll just have to tough it out. Anyone have any thoughts on additional means of easing my recovery that doesn’t include the typical over the counter ones I’m all for it.
