Putting On A Race

Filed under: Creating a Race — runninggeek at 5:59 pm on Monday, January 9, 2006

Recently I was asked to look into organizing a race as a fund raiser for a girls/boys youth group. Though I am familiar with most of the races that are run in Central Ohio but I’ve never put one on.

I’ve contacted Run Wild Racing and Premier Races to get some initial ideas about what’s involved. I’ve also contacted some other charities to find out what they’ve done to get their’s off the ground in the past.

If anyone has any ideas or thoughts, please post anything you have.

I am an MBA student at OSU’s Fisher College of Business. We are currently organizing a 5K race benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Columbus. Promotion and Sponsorship is key to success. In your first year keep expenses to a minimum! Attempt to find sponsors that have a local interest or benefit from a successful race. Be ready to dedicate a lot of time! Or you could always partner with an existing race (Fisher 5K) that is close to your personal interests and help develop the success of that race :) Good Luck!
