How Running Got Me Through Work

This summer has been my worst year for running ever. My family had a new addition with the arrival of our second son William which usually slows down my running anyways but this year is also a migration year at JPMorgan Chase(alias Bank One).

Being new to the bank I wasn’t sure what to expect but I had a feeling that having a migration project on my plate was going to mean a lot more work. As the summer began and the migration date grew closer and closer my team was working more and more. At the end a 75 hour work week would have been nice.

Working that much didn’t leave time for anything else, let alone running. Strangely enough it was running that got me through the hardest parts. In running when you hit those longer distances where your body wants to give up but you mentally know you only have a little more to go. You want to stop and walk because it really hurts to keep going. But your mind pushes you through it.

Many late work nights when I was so exhausted I didn’t want to keep going it was that mental push that I used in those long runs that got me through this difficult part. I just kept thinking “Pick up your legs. Don’t stop. Only a litle more.”

Now the migration is over and I’ve started running again. I’m in poor shape physically but mentally I know I can do it.
